I saw this cool woodpecker on a hike in El Chaltén. Anyone know what I should call it on my Life List?
T.R., I'm counting on you for phylum, class, genus and species!

Ok, I'm going to beat TR to the punch:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Only: Piciformes
Family: Picidae
Genus: Campephilus
Species: magellanicus
Also known as, the Magellanic Woodpecker. It's actually a close cousin to the Ivory-bill.
Great picture of an amazing bird!!
Thank you, Paul, you big bird-loving stud!
Now see Paul is the real deal. I am learning everything from him. But thanks for the vote of confidence. Thanks for the rescue Paul!!!
